Hi Dave, I just wanted to let you know that the motor OBM-1725RPM was a perfect match for my old Lima. (Specs below in green) So if you ever run across this motor again you will know you have a match. The only problem was like you said, it doesn't have the screw threads for the transformer to attach. That's no bid deal, I just used some large wire straps I have that should work fine. Also the motor was easy to reverse the direction with a two wire terminal swap. I'm glad that was the case since I forgot all about the direction problem with all my other worries. I just thought you would like to hear that. Thanks for your help,

I’m not sure if you remember me, but I’m the guy who placed the orders Sunday afternoon, December 2nd, for the York furnace parts, and you called and spent quite a bit of time helping and counseling me. (Order #s 17872, 17873, 17877).

UPS brought the circuit board and limit switch late Tuesday, and I went to work replacing them. It looks like you were right, and the circuit board was the problem. I was able with your telephone counseling to replace the board in a short period of time and get the furnace working again. It appears to be working great now, better than ever, in fact. It may not seem like a big deal to you, you probably talk to dumb homeowners like me every day who need your professional expertise, but I wanted you to understand how much it meant to me to have your help.

I have been unemployed, involuntarily, for the past year. I am getting ready to deploy overseas with the US Army, and need to sell my house. Of all the lousy timing, suddenly my furnace goes on the fritz during a stormy weekend with cold weather approaching. With limited funds, all the stress I could already take, and the time and pressure of the upcoming move, your patience and professionalism with me on a Sunday afternoon was a Godsend, Dave.

You helped me through what for you was probably a routine maintenance issue, but, for me, it was a major crisis. I’m an old computer geek, so I can deal with small electrical boards all right, but once I opened up that furnace I was way over my head. I had no real good starting point and really wasn’t in a position to call in a technician on a Sunday and pay premium fees that I don’t have. You spent a great deal of your time and several telephone calls leading me through, diagnosing what you could over the telephone and through email photos (at least I knew how to take digital pictures!), and gave me a good chunk of your Sunday afternoon. You even advised me to cancel the orders for parts I didn’t need to help save me money I didn’t need to spend. I deeply, deeply appreciate your help. Not only did you gain a loyal customer from wherever I am in the world, but your business will be the first one I recommend to anybody who needs HVAC parts.

I am most grateful for your help, Dave. You are a true customer-oriented professional, and I thank you.

Dave you would like to know that following your advice I called a certified technician to take care of my furnace. Since my furnace is a 1982 vintage they always try to selll me a new system claiming that parts are not available for my system. I am close to 80 years old in fix income and try to survive taking care of what I have. I begged the man to at least disconnect the pilot and check if it was plug. He reluctantly did that and found the pilot opening pluged, but he added  that the plugged nozzle was not available an insisted in a new system. Following your advice we used some alcohol that immediately clear the nozzle. He charged me $70 dollars that I happily paid to him, but the real hero is you with your advice. I would like to thank you again for your help. I may not be in your computer but two to three years ago a bought that electronic furnace card from you. The reason that I know is because your web page was still in my computer. Have happy Christmas.

Hi, Dave!

This morning I got the capacitor and the hard start kit that I ordered from you yesterday. Great service!

I already installed them and so far, so good. Seems that you might have saved me about $3 grand, as my old INTERTHERM heat pump compressor/condenser unit (which a couple of so-called "pros" had told me to junk) is back on its feet and cooling beautifully in today's 98º weather here in FL.

I do not know if this was the cause of my troubles with the compressor or not, but when I personally installed the parts I bought from you I gave the entire unit a thorough checkup and cleaning and I'll be gosh $%&#*+ if I didn't find a  carbonized dead lizard straddling across the compressor's  3 main power connectors at the base! The poor thing must have crawled into the terminal cap when the compressor was off and got electrocuted by the connection that is always live (I have a 2-line, single pole contactor, with L1-T1 always energized.) I wonder if the dead carcass was providing some sort of an unwanted "bridge" or resistance between all the terminals. What do you think? Is this possible? *Dave , quite possible surprised your HVAC pros,did not notice this, before they told you you to junk your heat pump *assuming they actually came out and looked at it.

Another couple of questions if I may, Dave. According to my schematics, my compressor (a COPELAND CR42K6-PFV-260) is equipped with a crankcase heater strip that gets it's power across terminals L1 and L2 of the contactor; in other words, it is always on. Given our FL hot summers and the fact that we have very mild winters, is this heater strip really necessary? Wouldn't I save some money (and help the compressor stay cooler) by disconnecting the strip? *Dave I would leave it hooked up, especially On cool nights in winter, even in Florida.

At any rate, a BIG THANKS! I'll be sure to be back next time I need some parts. Keep up the good work.

I certainly appreciate the fast service but more than that I appreciate the personal attention that was instrumental in getting me the part that I needed quickly. That's not something that I'm used to with most suppliers, especially on line suppliers. When I removed the original module, 16 years old, it had about one ounce of red clay insect nest caked on the circuit board .

Yes, a tech who happens to be one of the owners of the company I work for was already there and told the customer that there 48 yr. old furnace is not worth repairing. I spoke further with the tech and he did say that it would be something indeed that he would have to go back again under the 1 year warranty and parts guarantee. I just wanted to be sure that the tech was honest. The customer felt that he was being wrongly manipulated into buying a new unit. Your answer has helped in two ways. 1. provided me with more information I can give to the customer. And 2. Ensured me that my boss does after all have integrity. I really appreciate your help. By squirrel cage, he is likely referring to the squirrel cage blower wheel. At 48 yrs old, it is likely a belt drive blower. Also The OEM blower wheel would be obsolete and unavailable. There are after market blower wheels of various sizes made by a co. well known in the HVAC industry “LAU” however, nothing exactly the same size would be available.
 
As to whether or not the furnace should be replaced, likely at that age it probably should be. Only an on-site evaluation by an HVAC tech can determine that, however,if its really old and obsolete, most HVAC cos. Will not spend a lot of time on repairing an old furnace that they figure will come back to haunt them with more problems later on. In fact at labor rates in most Metropolitan areas at $100 per 1/2/hr and up, most techs are told by their employers to just sell a new furnace when they run into an old furnace with difficult problems involving unavailable parts etc,

Dear Dave,

When the Carrier service people came to the house they said we needed a new inducer motor and blower assembly. They told us we needed a new furnace and gave us an estimate.

We do not have the money to do that at this time. I am retired and my wife is disabled. I took the assembly apart and looked at the furnace. Apparently the grand kids had filled up most of the air pipe with rocks and so the furnace was not getting enough air. Since I removed the rocks the furnace is heating very well.

I was a little surprised when I received the motor that it was different than the one I was replacing.  After scoping out the situation I saw that it was made to bolt directly to the cover with out the bracket the old one used.  Long story short all went well and I am cooling it again.Thanks for the great parts, great service and prompt shipping.

Dave,    Thanks for the information on the wiring. I had a stroke of good fortune happen today. Not that it's a good thing but my next door neighbor's condenser developed a hole in the coil and had to be replaced. I went over and told the man doing the work about my wiring problem and he came over and got my unit connected and running. He wasn't going to charge me anything for his help but I put a 50 in his hand and thanked him. The house is cool and comfortable again and my wife is breathing much easier. Just a note of thanks for your help in finding the right part for my furnace.

I had two guys look at the furnace. The first guy did not know what he was talking about and told me that it would take $400 to $500 to replace the main electronic control panel - he added the caveat that the problem may not be solved by replacing the panel. Of course, he was interested in trying to sell me a new furnace as well. Wasted $65 on that "diagnosis".

The second person knew what he was talking about and indicated that the problem was with the ignition control module. He indicated that it would cost $400 to repair, however, I would receive credit for the $98 I spent on the diagnosis. So for another $302 I would get heat.

Your service ended up costing about $120 (it would have been less if I opted for less expensive shipping). You saved me approximately $180. It took all of 5 minutes to replace the module (7 spade connectors and two screws).

As the need arises, I will certainly go to you again for any needed repair parts.

 After a local company quoted me $599.00 for the inducer motor and claiming it was backordered for 2 – 3 weeks, I became frustrated. I did a quick search while the repairman was here, took all of 5 minutes to locate a company and the part, and shared with him I found it in stock for a fraction of the quoted cost. Somehow they now called an hour ago with the part, funny how that works.

I saved myself $457.00 by installing myself, a total of 8 sheet metal screws!

So thank you and I know where to go next when I need a furnace part.

The simple problem was in the stack part. The stack needed to be reset "clicked". Also It needed a cleaning (new j strainer and nozzle stone).
Thanks for your much appreciated reply. I'll be looking to purchase that book don't you know. I am moving and the new furnace is oil forced air!

Same furnace. Your hint about the fan control button did the trick. I just pushed it all the way in, pulled it back out, and turned on the power. Not sure how this could have been tripped other than the cleaning that I did 2 weeks ago. But it worked fine until last night (?). Anyway, everything seems fine now and I appreciate your help. You saved me some $$$$. Next season I'll be buying some electrodes from you for the burner -- mine are on their last legs.

Hi Dave,
 
I received the electronic fan control unit today and installed it in less than 20 minutes.  Thanks again, my furnace is up and running again, the combustion blower was just turning on and off continuously with my electronic thermostat while it was not calling for heat, but ran fine when calling for heat.  Very annoying at 3AM.  We expect snow within the next couple of weeks and the temperature is starting to get a little cold, so it arrived just in time.  You probably saved me a few hundred dollars by not having to call a technician.  I'm sure they would have charged around $300 Canadian for the part, $100 for the diagnosis, and $100 to install the new unit.

    I received the motor today.  Everything went well, had to turn the bolts around like you said and the directions explained the wiring convention for a 3 point capacitor so there was no problem with the wiring.  I want to thank you for all your help.  We have had some brutal weather - 99 degrees and humid.  It's nice to have the house at a cool 74 degrees again.

I am sorry to take your time on something so trivial, but I have to be sure that I have ordered the right part. I have an old Honeywell fan and limit control model L4064B 2624. According to your explanation I should just measure the probe length (11 ½”), which I did and ordered the L4064B 2210 11 ½ inches. I was quite confident I ordered the correct replacement part. My only question is if you could confirm I made the correct choice since an HVAC pro started confusing me that I can burn down my house if I put a wrong replacement part in my York furnace.

As long as you read, understand and follow the instructions that come with the part, you should not have any problems installing the part. Also pay close attention as to whether to remove the brass tab or leave it in, as per the part instructions. If yours needs to be removed, just twist the tab with a pair of needle nose pliers, until the tab breaks and pull it out, *as
per enclosed instructions.

Quite frankly, I think your HVAC pro just wanted to sell you his part. My suggestion would be, If you are going to have an HVAC Co. install the part, that you call a different co. from the one that gave you that info. The Honeywell L4064B2210 is a correct replacement for ALL Honeywell L4064B series 11-1/2” probe fan & limit controls, as your HVAC Pro already knows or should know.

On your old -03 board there were 2 terminals labled “Y” , they were  jumper connections between the yellow wire from your room thermostat to  whatever color wire coming from your outside unit that connected to the other “Y” terminal on your old board. The new -04 board has no “Y” terminals. The 2 wires previously mentioned are spliced *wire nutted together and do not connect to the new board at all.

I ordered a janitrol timed fan control part #B18099-04 to replace my B18099-03 for my Janitrol HVAC unit.  While the new board is supposed to be a direct replacement for the old one, I'm having trouble installing it because there is no place for the yellow wire from the thermostat to connect.  The layout of the new board is a bit different from the old. 

 

Do you have instructions to help me install the new board?  If not could you direct me to a place where I could obtain these instructions?

I wanted to take a moment and thank you for both your expert advise and fast service.  My local dealer wanted $320 plus tax for the part I needed, whereas I purchased it from you for $160.  Even with overnight shipping, I came in at only $200 total.  Within 18 hours, I had the part in my hand.  An hour later, and my central air was working again . . . just in time for a long weekend of 99+ degree weather.  I will definitely look to your website first for all my hvac needs.  Keep up the good work!

Hi Dave,Just want to thank you for the igniter switch ordered for my furnace.   To be honest I hate "surfing" the internet, but after being quoted by a major heat/air conditioning company of $417.00 (for the igniter switch alone), I decided to start my search on the web.   My $45 part ordered did the trick, my neighbor is an electrician and came over and installed it.   It works like a charm!   I'm in Florida, thank goodness the weather has been in the mid 80's.  We are due for a cool spell this weekend.......just in time to use the furnace!
